Marine transport has a significant impact on global climate change, to offset this impact Regulation (EU) 2015/757 was introduced in July 2015. The objective of the MRV Regulation is to develop a better understanding of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from shipping activities within the EU which could then be used to shape and inform any future GHG monitoring or reduction initiatives.
The first deadline of this regulation is August 31, 2017, by this date ship owners must submit a monitoring plan on each ship they operate to an independent accredited verifier who will conduct an assessment to ensure that it complies with the requirements of the Regulation.
Although the deadline for the submission of the monitoring plan is August 31, 2017, ship owners are encouraged to start composing their plan and have it assessed by an independent verifier so that any issues can promptly be identified and corrected
